かつてはマイナー・リーグで活躍した事もあるプール清掃人バターメーカーは、市議会からの要請で少年野球チーム“ベアーズ”のコーチを任せられる。だが問題児ばかり抱えた“ベアーズ”が強くなる事など絶対不可能だと知ったバターメーカーは、昔の恋人の娘で抜群の投球センスを持つアマンダと、オートバイを乗り回している不良少年ケリーをチームに加え、連勝街道に乗り出していく。
